The 2nd ASEAN Battery Technology Conference (ABTC) returned stronger with over 320 participants from 16 countries, from across three continents, Asia Pacific, Europe and North America at the Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa between 21st and 23rd August 2024. Hosted in Singapore this year by the Singapore Battery Consortium, the event is also co-organised by the Thailand Energy Storage Technology Association, the National Battery Research Institute, the National Center for Sustainable Transportation Technology, NanoMalaysia, and the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The 2024 conference was officially opened by Mr Lam Wee Shann, Deputy Chief Executive, Technology, Land Transport Authority, Singapore (LTA).<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In his opening speech, Mr Lam addressed the guests and media and shared that the land transport sector would significantly reduce emissions in absolute terms to support Singapore\u2019s net-zero ambitions. LTA will continue to promote walking, cycling and taking public transport as these are the greenest ways to move around. Another key move is to encourage the adoption of cleaner energy vehicles, including EVs.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Mr Lam said, \u201cThe National EV Centre in the Land Transport Authority focuses on three main areas. First, ensuring EV battery safety is paramount as we push for electrification.<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The second is to expand our EV charging infrastructure to encourage EV adoption. By the end of 2025, all public car parks in Singapore will have EV charging points. Finally, we will ensure that our policies support the facilitation of new areas and evolving technologies. For example, we have provided incentives like the EV Early Adoption Incentive (EEAI) to support vehicle purchases. <\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I am excited to launch the 2nd ASEAN Battery Technology Conference. Battery development is a fast-developing area, and it is important to bring together the public, private, investors, and academia to align its growth in the region. I look forward to continuing these productive discussions.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

By prioritising sustainability, we not only drive innovation but also ensure that our progress contributes to a healthier planet. At this conference, we bring together key stakeholders in battery technology development in the region so that we can continue to collaborate and align to build a strong energy ecosystem,\u201d said Dr. Pimpa Limthongkul, Co-Chairman of ABTC and President of the Thailand Energy Storage Technology Association. She also moderated the panel discussion on ASEAN and Global Trends in Battery End-Of-Life Strategies.<\/p>\n
