“Bangkok Cable” Celebrates 60 Years of Leadership in the Electric Wire Industry Aiming to Enhance Safety and the Future of Cities to Meet Triple Growth in Global Electricity Demand

Bangkok Cable marks its 60th anniversary by reaffirming its position as Thailand’s leading manufacturer of electrical wires and cables. According to international research predicting a threefold surge in global power generation demand by 2050 during the Net-Zero era, pushing the global need for wires beyond 80 million kilometers, the company announced its “3 Save” concept:—Save People, Save Cities, and Save the Environment—Bangkok Cable aims to enhance safety, drive the future of urban development with premium-grade wires, develop new technology for smart cities, while facilitating the clean energy transformation. To commence six decades of continued innovation, they are launching new 230 kV extra-high-voltage cables to support infrastructure development, underground cabling, and grid upgrades. They plan to increase production capacity to 60,000 tons per year and set a three-year target to leverage cutting-edge R&D to expand into the ASEAN and global markets while developing a Smart Factory to boost production efficiency, support social responsibility, and reduce environmental impact. A grand 60th year celebration is set for September 9, featuring an exhibition showcasing their journey of sustainable growth and cables that power urban development.

Mr. Pongsapak Nakornsri, Executive Director of Bangkok Cable Co., Ltd. (BCC), Thailand’s leading manufacturer and developer of electrical wires and cables, said that over the past 60 years, the company’s products have played a key role in connecting the nation’s infrastructure and utilities, laying the foundation for industrial growth, urban development, and improved quality of life in Thailand. Examples include the development of high-voltage transmission wires, pioneering underground cabling, and connecting power lines for mass transit systems. As the world moves toward Net-Zero GHG Emissions, the company estimates that electrical wires will play an even more crucial role. With global power generation expected to triple and shift to 91% renewable energy by 2050, the demand for wires could reach 80 million kilometers to upgrade existing lines and develop new electrical infrastructure to support renewable energy transmission.

“The trends in Thailand are moving in the same direction. We see increasing demand for electrical wires and cable driven by various factors, such as nationwide smart city initiatives, grid modernization, the growth of energy-intensive sectors like data centers, and the public and private sectors transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy in line with Net Zero goals. Electric cables will be a key driver in accelerating the shift to clean energy and shaping the future of cities,” said Mr. Pongsapak.

Bangkok Cable, as Thailand’s leading wire and cable manufacturer, is committed to leveraging its engineering expertise to continuously develop cable technologies that align with global trends. The company adheres to the “3 Saves” concept—save people, save cities, and save the environment—to enhance safety for everyone and drive urban transformation for a sustainable future. The approach includes:

1.Save People: Protecting homes from unseen dangers and ensuring family safety with cables made from the highest quality materials, such as 99.99% pure copper and 99.7% pure aluminum with excellent conductivity, corrosion resistance, and safety features, including fire-resistant cables tested to withstand extreme heat. 2.Save Cities: Supporting the nation’s electrical system with cables certified to meet international quality standards, tested in one of Thailand’s largest electrical testing labs, and offering mobile high-voltage testing services at customer sites. The company also develops products that align with urban development trends. 3.Saving the Environment: Advancing renewable energy innovations with cables that connect Thailand to a Net-Zero future. Bangkok Cable is the first and only Thailand’s cable manufacturer in the UN Global Compact Network Thailand (UNGCNT) and has achieved Green Industry Level 4 certification, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly business practices.

Mr. Pongsapak added that the “3 Saves” concept supports future urban growth and covers the needs of all seven customer segments served by the company. In the short term, Bangkok Cable has developed new products that align with this concept, such as the 230kV CE(CAS) Extra High Voltage cable for infrastructure upgrades, underground cabling for enhanced city aesthetics, smart city development, and reduced environmental impact, as well as the ACCC® Conductor, which is the first of its kind produced in Thailand for upgrading electrical infrastructure to support renewable energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The company plans to increase production capacity from the current 55,000 tons per year to 60,000 tons per year by the end of this year, aiming to increase its market share from 25% to 35%.

In the medium term (2024-2026), Bangkok Cable aims to become the leading wire and cable company in ASEAN, meeting the electricity needs of both Thailand and the world through three main strategies including 1.Regional Expansion: Utilizing the company’s cutting-edge R&D and product development to present competitive products to the global stage, particularly in ASEAN, and also strengthen its network and supply chain. 2.Smart Factory Development: Integrating new technologies and AI to enhance production efficiency, towards Industry 4.0. 3.Sustainable Growth: As Bangkok Cable celebrates its 60th anniversary, it remains committed to managing with ethical integrity, prioritizing social responsibility, reducing environmental impact, and ensuring essential cables support the electrification needs of the Net-Zero world.
