THE OPERATION OF PNEUMATIC SYSTEMS AND SOLENOID VALVES CAN SUFFER FROM “WET AIR” PROBLEMS, ESPECIALLY OUR COUNTRY, THAILAND, WHERE THERE IS A HIGH LEVEL OF HUMIDITY IN THE AIR

Solenoid Valves in Pneumatic systems… will malfunction if the “air” fed into the control systems contains water. In countries with hot and humid climates, where humidity is already high, when compressed air is injected into the Pneumatic systems to provide pressure to the piston in the cylinder, it must not leak through the seals. These are usually “rubber” seals. When “rubber” gets wet, it hardens, and its elasticity, which allows for a tight seal preventing air from passing through, is lost… slowly and over a long period depending on the level of water and humidity.

Machines with Pneumatic systems using Solenoid Valves for controlling will gradually show signs of malfunction until they become permanently faulty.

It’s not because the Solenoid Valve is worn out or has reached its lifespan, but the root cause is the air entering the system which is too “wet.”

Sometimes I ask jokingly… When I receive a Service Calling with a request, “Come in to check this out! Whether the connection is made to an air or water line?” (Some factories have surprisingly high levels of water in the compressed air.)

One customer encountered a problem with the tool changing mechanism at the Solenoid Valve shown in the picture. Sometimes it would fail to change. The problem was fixed, but after a while (Several Weeks), it returned. And then, one day, they had a second-handed super Japanese-made Dryer installed on.

After installing the Dryer, they tested the compressed air by spraying it with water. There were no water droplets at all, whereas before the Dryer, anything would get wet immediately upon contact and after a short time, water would drip.

The problems and Alarms related to compressed air during operation disappeared completely.
