Machinery After-Sales Service … That Ought To Be Considered, “History Of The Problem,” Not Just To Fix The “Symptoms” That Appear.

Sometimes, identifying the root cause matters more than diagnosing a problem solely from its symptoms. This idea comes from the Netflix film Saliva’s Crossing, in which an experienced small-town doctor advises a renowned city surgeon who is training to establish a family medicine clinic in the same community.

…………..This led me to realize that the same applies to the after-sales service for machinery.

One case involved an after-sales service request for a wire-cutting machine from China. Suddenly, the cutting process slowed down. The program on the machine completed its run, but the machine couldn’t keep up, and several alarms appeared on the screen.

Of course, repeatedly troubleshooting the alarms is one approach, but it’s not the path our staff chose…. because considering the location where the machine is placed with conductive metal dust, potential vibrations, the user’s experience and understanding of machine operation, previous history, and the humid climate due to recent rainfall, these factors made the decision too difficult. It would be good to first check the internal condition of the controller in the personal computer that functions as a numerical control, or NC unit for short. And we found that it was indeed dirty and dusty.

After cleaning the various panel slots and removing dust from the circuit boards, and turning on the machine, all alarms disappeared….

Cleaning isn’t that difficult, but did we start doing it? When did we start it? And did we think that doing so would solve the problem? Most importantly,

Thank you to the team for noticing the “Problem” and not just fixing the “Symptoms.”
